Position title: Staff Veterinarian â€" BFAS, Kanab Utah Reports to : Medical Director Location: Kanab, Utah Position Summary: You became a veterinarian to help save the lives of animals, and to give them the best possible qu! ality of life. And nowhere can you do that more than at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, where we pride ourselves on offering homeless pets â€" though they may have been rejected or abandoned or treated as throw-aways â€" the same top-of-the-line care that animals with the most loving families would have their vets provide. Here at Best Friends, animals may arrive with emergency injuries, or long-term illnesses, and we need top-notch vets to heal them. High volume spaying and neutering is a big part of the job as well, a task that helps keep unwanted litters out of shelters, ultimately saving countless lives. All of the animals at the Sanctuary also need routine check-ups and care. The Staff Veterinarian will provide quality medical care for all our sanctuary animals. Essential Duties:
Responsible for the ! examination, diagnosis, and treatment of sanctuary animals
Diagnostic procedures include, but are not limited to, interpreting radiographs, ultrasounds, fine-needle aspirates, nasal and tracheal flushes
Be on call after hours 1-3 days a week for sanctuary and employee animals
Advocate for animals, educate public, Best Friends Animal Society staff on all aspects of animal health, and ensure a safe and effective clinic environment
Promote continuing development of medical care through continued education
Delegating duties and responsibilities to technical support staff to ensure proper care and comfort of hospitalized patients
Keeping abreast of veterinary concerns and trends in the animal welfare movement
