Scope: Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is an important strategic pillar for the Sierra Club, enabling the identification of current and emerging risks in daily operations of the organization and managing them to acceptable levels through remediation. Through its interaction with all departments and functional areas, this function provides valuable insight and reporting to ensure the overall viability of the Club.
The Enterprise Risk Management Analyst will provide support to the Enterprise Risk Management function by facilitating risk assessments and management level discussions that enhance the communication of enterprise risks and their impact on the business, document and maintain ERM management action records, create and generate reports that support the Club’s risk profile and enterprise risks; as well as support management by identifying and documenting key operational processes and controls within the organization. The Analyst will have the opportunity to join and shape a growing risk management function that proactively supports a sustainable Sierra Club.
Job activities include but are not limited to:
- Support the Senior Director of Planning and Risk Management in collaborating with management and respective departments to comprehend and measure evolving risk and risk moderation strategies as measured within the approved risk appetite.
- Aid in developing procedures of the enterprise risk management program, identifying and aiding in the creation of risk appetite, risk tolerance levels, and key risk indicators (KRI).
- Aid in the continued identification and documentation of enterprise level risks.
- Aid in the creation of educational resources for established risk owners.
- Develop, monitor, and report on the progress of ERM management action plans captured in the form of a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plan (BD/DR).
- Facilitate reporting to board and Senior Leadership on the current assessed level of risk and document recommendations on managing risks.
- Assist in developing and implementing measurement components of the ERM framework.
- Support the drive for continuous improvement of ERM processes through tabletop exercises and other risk identification and recovery processes.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following skills, experience and competencies:
- 2 - 5 years of work experience in an Enterprise Risk Function, preferably within a large organization, with a track record of being influential at the departmental level.
- Relevant experience in risk management, such as: identifying risk in key processes, compliance with regulatory requirements, monitoring, testing, issue management, risk appetite and related metrics, and reporting.
- Understanding of risk management frameworks and best practices.
- Experience collaborating with management on financial/operational issues to influence improvements to control the environment and/or increase efficiency
- Experience with discretion and diplomacy; respectful of confidential information and data; high integrity
The strongest candidates will also demonstrate the following skills, experience and competencies:
- Certification in Risk Management Assurance and/or Internal Audit.
- Strong presence with consultative, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to build solid, collaborative working relationships with stakeholders, across all functions.
- Ability to work in a team environment as a team member or as team leader.
- Working knowledge of major organizational processes and compliance/risk issues related to grassroots movements, non-profit entities, and Outings.
- Solid knowledge of governance, risk management and compliance program frameworks.
- Ability to quickly assimilate relevant information in unfamiliar situations, identify issues and root causes.
- Good presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic knowledge of process documentation methods.
- Passion to continuously help improve operations and enhance/preserve shareholder value.
- Experienced with MS Excel and PowerPoint.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.
