â" Responsible to take a donor through all aspects of the donation process, including the physical, history and phlebotomy plus related activities needed ! to complete the process.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Accountable for adhering to MountainStar Blood Servicesâ mission including behavioral expectations.
- Greets and instructs the donor on the completion of the donor card. Answers any questions the donor may have.
- Perform mini-physical; to include:
o Temperature
o Pulse
o Hematocrit
o Arm check for recreational drug use
o Assessment of overall general appearance of the donor
- Perform medical history;
o Assess donor answers about travel to potential malarial areas and areas at risk for transmission of CJD.
o An underst! anding of medication deferrals.
o Consult with Medica! l Director or Supervisor when needed.
o Document information received from donors appropriately.
o Answers the donorâs questions regarding donation and makes the donor feel at ease.
- Perform phlebotomy (as required)
o Perform scrub according to standard operating procedures.
o Labels bag, tubes, and all appropriate paperwork.
o Perform venipuncture and collect samples.
o Assess donor during collection process.
o Monitor collection for flow rate and / or mix bag if applicable.
o End phlebotomy; document information.
o Give âpost donation instructionsâ and release donor to canteen.
- Perform stripping and sealing of units.
- Assess and respond when a donor has an adverse reaction to the donation.
- Required to work in the donor room or on mobiles.
- When working on ! mobiles, is an active participant in setting up and breaking down mobile equipment.
- Performs and documents QC as required.
- Share responsibility for clean up, placing units in refrigerator, restocking supplies and other clean up as necessary. (applies to mobile and in-house)
- Follows all âStandard Operating Proceduresâ and is responsible for their content. Stays current on SOP updates and other necessary training.
- Correct donor cards to prevent a delay in releasing blood. Answers Quality Improvement Reports in a timely manner.
- Makes telerecruitment phone calls for mobiles, special blood types, etc. to ensure an adequate blood supply.
- May be cross-trained in the component processing area as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Pheresis Tech Duties
:
- Responsible for being proficient in the operation of all pheresis machines.!
- Responsible for recruiting donors to become pheresis donors.
- Responsible for covering other shifts when someone calls in sick, etc.
- Responsible for covering mobile blood drives when needed.
- Responsible for scheduling donors for pheresis and maintaining the schedule for the donors.
Trainer Responsibilities:
- Conducts training sessions for new and existing employees and completes training records. Works closely with supervisors / coordinators to ensure necessary training is provided.
- Ensures training for each employee is completed within departmental target time-frames. Reports delays to the supervisor.
- Evaluates ongoing performance of staff to assure effectiveness of training and adherence to policies and procedures. Performs additional training for areas identified as deficient.
- Meets regularly with Collection Supervisor, Recruiter and Team Leads to identify training issues.
- Assists Collection Supervisor in reviewing appl! ications, setting up interviews and participates in hiring process as directed by Collections Supervisor.
- Implements training programs developed by the Collections Supervisor to address any deficiencies realized from audits.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE -
Phlebotomy training or previous donor services experience preferred, including basic medical terminology. Prefer Pre-Med background, EMT, Paramedic or any health related background.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE â"
CNA or phlebotomy certification preferred.
TRAVEL -
Travel to off-site businesses, churches, hospitals, etc. is expected. Exposure to donorâs blood is possible during the collection of blood and the donor physical. Therefore, universal precautions must be practiced. Work schedule mandated by mobile drive schedule.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
- Lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs. On a frequent basis; pushing and pulling of up to 50 lbs. on occasion; required eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate clinical equipment, keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office! equipment; requires some bending, stooping and stretching; must be able to stand for extended periods of time while performing duties, requires normal range of hearing and eye sight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; exposure to toxic, caustic chemicals and detergent; exposure to dust, fumes and helicopters; repetitive arm/hand movements; acuity both far and near. Office environment with routine travel within the Division. Occasional evening or weekend work. Staff must remain flexible and available to provide staffing assistance for any/all disaster or emergency situations. Exposure to donorâs blood is possible during the collection of blood and the donor physical. Therefore, universal precautions must be practiced.
