The NP/APRN role provides primary care and treatment to patients in a University Health Sciences clinic or hospital unit.

DUTIES

Specific Job responsibilities:
1. Perform comprehensive histories and physicals in an office and preoperative setting.
2. Be responsible as first call for inpatient issues at HCH during the week during regular work hours.
3. Admit all patients, performing all necessary paperwork, orders, etc. from the operating room on whom he/she has assisted with the surgery.
4. Perform postoperative checks on all inpatients on the day of surgery when within normal work hours.
5. Perform all discharge summaries when patients are discharged during normal work hours.
6. Coordinate multi-disciplinary follow-up with the outpatient coordinator when patients are discharged from the hospital.
7. Assist in attending physician clinics by presenting, discussing, and implementing treatment plans with physician.
8. Participate in the Treatment Planning Conference.
9. Understand treatment protocols for different breast cancers and breast reconstruction t! echniques and help to implement them.
10. Be able to work ! independently and discuss different breast cancers and breast reconstruction techniques in conjunction with physician plans.
11. Work independently in specialized follow-up clinics for patients who have undergone breast reconstruction or other reconstructive procedures.
12. Perform diagnostic office procedures (i.e. core needle biopsies, excisional biopsies, wound assessment and dressing / packing, casts and splinting, etc.).
13. Perform other clinic procedures (i.e. suturing and suture removal).
14. Position will involve learning surgical assistance and hospital floor responsibilities.
15. Evaluate labs, pathology, and radiology results and communicate follow up with staff and patients.
16. Work closely with study coordinator to be an advocate for identifying and enrolling patients that qualify for current research studies.
17. Communicate well with office staff, physicians, and patients to provide timely, accurate patient care.
18. Facilita! te continuity of patient care across a variety of disciplines (i.e. radiation oncology, medicine oncology, surgery). In many cases, will be the primary contact for other services and disciplines.
19. Works closely with the Clinical Care Specialist in appropriate triage of new patients.
QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Nationally certified as a Nurse Practitioner as required under State Law. Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area; and demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills are required.
