ABOUT THE TEAM
The Data & Analytics organization builds data products to inform PG&E’s Wildfire Safety Program. The data science team specifically builds tools and models towards proactive care and maintenance of our electric assets. We collaborate closely with diverse partners across the company to prevent wildfires in California.
ABOUT THE ROLE
In this role you will build data science models, end to end. From user discovery through data cleaning, feature engineering, model training and validation, stakeholder presentations, and visualizations, your goal is to help:
Prevent wildfires.
Inform how much to invest in inspecting power lines.
Inform Public Safety Power Shutoffs.
Support data-driven decisions for multiple lines of business.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $102,000.00
Bay Area Maximum: $162,000.00
&/OR
California Minimum: $97,000.00
California Maximum: $154,000.00
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
WE ARE EXCITED TO MEET YOU BECAUSE YOU:
Have an undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative field with an emphasis on the statistics underpinning data science.
Have 2 years of experience working in data science
Have experience with the entire data science lifecycle.
Are very comfortable coding in Python and SQL.
Have built various regression and machine learning models.
Have worked with highly imbalanced datasets.
Identify problems and implement solutions on your own initiative.
Are curious about and challenge model results.
Are familiar with Bayesian updating.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Econometrics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, Statistics or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
Job-related experience (e.g. data analytics and modeling), 2 years, OR Master’s Degree, OR Doctorate Degree
