The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee of Manitoba (PGT) is a provincial government Special Operating Agency that manages the affairs of Manitobans who are unable to do so themselves and have no one else willing or able to act. The PGT is an office of last resort that provides essential services to clients for whom the PGT has been appointed to act. This includes mentally incompetent and vulnerable adults, deceased estates and children.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide and maintain Satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • A valid driver’s licence with daily access to a vehicle to transport clients’ belongings
  • Ability to be bonded in Manitoba
  • Ability to travel within the service area which may include overnight stays in rural and remote locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and work in a physically demanding environment

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to quickly adapt to a change in tasks and effectively manage a high volume of work while maintaining detailed notes, tracking time and completing mileage and expense reports
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) or equivalent programs, including efficient keyboarding skills.
  • Attention to detail, strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders such as other government departments, community police services, a variety of professionals and the general public
  • Excellent written communication skills including (but not limited to) ability to prepare detailed reports of observations made (whether by email, memo, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal communication
  • Experience working with people who have a mental illness, dementia or vulnerable people living with a mental disability as well as their families and service providers
  • Ability to work in various environments, including but not limited to unsanitary conditions, hoarding, and presence of rodents and/or insects

Desired:
  • Experience conducting investigations in order to identify/locate financial resources, documents and property
  • Experience conducting physical searches of property or residences which may include preparing detailed inventories of goods and belongings
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures

Duties:
The Investigator is responsible for performing investigative functions to support the PGT in the management of client affairs. This includes (without limitation) field work, conducting searches, preparing detailed inventories, taking possession and control of movable items from a client’s premises, obtaining appraisals for personal property, arranging for the sale or disposal of personal property, conducting interviews with clients’ families, securing properties, and arranging property maintenance and repairs.
